Buckeye Partners, L.P.: Grout Encasement Project
Grouting
East Chicago, Indiana
As a subcontractor to Kelley Construction, Thatcher Foundations Inc. provided labor, material and equipment for the grout encasement of a booster pump barrel. The grouting was carried out in stages to avoid buoyancy issues, according to the design build procedure developed by Thatcher Engineering. The work was performed utilizing an on-site grout plant consisting of a colloidal mixer and progressive cavity pump. A traditional piston concrete pump was also available for the use of grout from a ready mix supplier.
The job was completed using company-owned equipment and materials which had been previously purchased for an earlier Thatcher project, providing a cost-effective and timely solution for the owner, and an opportunity to prevent waste for Thatcher. QA/QC were quickly developed and agreed upon and carried out in the field without incident.
